The Dog Breeding Pre-Mate Test Pads ^© are:

• Low Cost and effective

• Provides immediate results in 30 seconds to 3 minutes.  After 3 minutes pads turn dark from the air.  Must read results within the 3 minute period.

• No need to take the bitch to the vet and expose her to bugs

• Tells you when the bitch is ready to ovulate.  The LH turns the pads purple (burgundy) during the LH rise which is just prior to ovulation.

• The Fertile-Focus kit is a good complementary re-useable test kit that will indicate when the eggs have ripened and the bitch is fertile.

• Recommend start testing from first day when using the pads for the first time.

• One-off purchase.  The kit is reusable.

• Provides results in approximately 30 to 60 minutes when saliva has dried on the slide.  Give the slide plenty of time to dry.  You can leave it as long as you like to dry without affecting the results.  However, reading too soon may appear to have less ferning than is the case.

• For canines the eggs ripen (allowing the sperm to penetrate the eggs) between 24 to 96 hours after ovulation.   The ferning corresponds to the time the eggs are ripening.

• In Canines, the transitional ferning normally starts with the LH surge and continues through ovulation -- this phase can last approximately 3 to 5 days.  When the eggs start to ripen the saline ferning will indicate fertile.  The fertile phase will normally last 3 days and this is the ideal time for mating.  Canine sperm normally lives up to 5 days in the female.  For best results in canine breeding, mate either every other day right after the LH rise for 3 times -- or -- 3 days in a row during the fertile days. 

• The kit can be used to check the health of the male's sperm after a mating. 

•  Fertile-Focus can be MORE ACURATE than blood progesterone, because some bitches have late fertile days and can read between 18 and 26 on progesterone.  Without cytology or saline fern testing, it is not possible to know the exact days the bitch's eggs ripen.
